SplitNow – Returns & Refunds Policy

1. Overview

SplitNow is a Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) payment solution that allows customers to pay for purchases in three equal installments, with the first installment paid immediately at checkout and the remaining installments paid over time.

SplitNow acts as a payment facilitator, not the seller of goods or services. Therefore, all product quality, delivery, warranty, and return obligations remain the responsibility of the merchant.


2. Returns Eligibility

Customers may request a return or refund subject to the merchant’s return policy. Returns are accepted only if:

  • The merchant confirms acceptance of the return.
  • The return falls within the merchant’s allowed return period.
  • The product has not been damaged through misuse.
  • Proof of purchase using SplitNow is provided.
  • The merchant confirms the refund amount.

SplitNow does not determine product eligibility for return — this decision is made solely by the merchant.


3. Refund Process

If a merchant approves a refund:

  1. The merchant notifies SplitNow of the approved refund amount.
  2. SplitNow updates the transaction status.
  3. Refunds are processed according to the payment stage:

3.1 First Installment Paid Only

If only the first installment has been paid:

  • The refunded amount will be returned to the customer’s original payment method.
  • Processing time may take 3–7 business days, depending on the payment gateway.

3.2 Multiple Installments Paid

If more than one installment has been paid:

  • The refunded amount will first be applied to any outstanding installments.
  • Any remaining balance will be refunded to the customer.

3.3 Fully Paid Transactions

If all installments have been paid:

  • The full approved refund amount will be returned to the customer’s payment method.

4. Non-Refundable Fees

The following fees may not be refundable unless required by law:

  • Platform fees
  • Payment processing fees
  • Late payment fees (if applicable)
  • Delivery or logistics costs already incurred

Any non-refundable amounts will be disclosed to the customer before refund processing.


5. Partial Refunds

Where a merchant approves only a partial refund:

  • The refund amount will reduce the outstanding balance.
  • Future installment amounts may be adjusted accordingly.

6. Disputes

Customers must first attempt to resolve disputes directly with the merchant.

SplitNow reserves the right to request supporting documentation including:

  • proof of purchase
  • communication with the merchant
  • proof of return delivery

SplitNow – Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern the use of SplitNow services. By using SplitNow, the customer agrees to comply with these terms.

SplitNow provides a payment solution allowing customers to split purchases into installments, subject to eligibility and approval.


2. Eligibility

To use SplitNow services, customers must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a resident of South Africa
  • Provide accurate personal and financial information
  • Have a valid payment method
  • Pass affordability and verification checks

SplitNow reserves the right to approve or decline applications at its discretion.


3. Payment Structure

Customers agree to pay for purchases in installments structured as follows:

  • First installment payable immediately at checkout
  • Remaining installments automatically deducted on scheduled dates
  • Payment intervals typically 30 days apart

Failure to make payments may result in penalties or account restrictions.


4. Fees

SplitNow may charge the following fees:

  • Platform service fee
  • Payment processing fee
  • Late payment fee (if installment is missed)
  • Account recovery costs where applicable

All fees are disclosed before transaction confirmation.


5. Missed Payments

If a payment fails:

  • SplitNow may attempt to reprocess the payment.
  • Additional fees may apply.
  • Access to SplitNow services may be suspended.
  • The account may be referred for collections if outstanding balances remain unpaid.

Customers are responsible for ensuring sufficient funds are available.


6. Merchant Responsibility

Merchants are responsible for:

  • Product quality
  • Delivery timelines
  • Warranties
  • Returns
  • After-sales service

SplitNow does not manufacture, store, or deliver products.


7. Cancellations

Orders may only be cancelled if:

  • The merchant confirms cancellation
  • The order has not been fulfilled or delivered
  • The refund is approved by the merchant

Approved cancellations will follow the refund process outlined above.


8. Account Suspension

SplitNow reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts where:

  • False information is provided
  • Fraud is suspected
  • Terms are violated
  • Payments remain outstanding

9. Limitation of Liability

SplitNow shall not be liable for:

  • Product defects
  • Merchant service failures
  • Delivery delays
  • Third-party payment gateway errors
  • Indirect financial losses

Liability is limited to the amount of the transaction financed through SplitNow.


10. Privacy

Customer data is collected for:

  • identity verification
  • affordability assessment
  • payment processing
  • regulatory compliance

Data is processed according to applicable data protection laws.


11. Changes to Terms

SplitNow reserves the right to update these Terms at any time.

Customers will be notified of material changes via website or email.

Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of updated terms.


12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
